Philippa Knowles: Founder and CEO of The African Summer Fest
Founder and CEO of The African Summer Fest Philippa Knowles is a proud native of Sierra Leone. Born in Sierra Leone, she was raised to always be aware of her culture's uniqueness and rich heritage. She moved to London when she was five years old and attended St. Johns the Divine Primary School and then attended the prestigious Haberdashers Aske's Hatcham College. At the age of fifteen she moved to United States where she became an Alumi of Stephenson High School. She later attended East Tennessee state University and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts and Sciences in Criminal Justice and Psychology.
While in college Philippa was an active member of the Presidents Committee for Cultural Diversity, ETSU Gospel Choir and Black Affairs Association. During her years in college she was also a member of The Women's Leadership Program and an activist for social change and awareness. In 2008 she was a finalist in the Miss Africa USA Pageant, representing Sierra Leone and then went on to be Miss Sierra Leone USA 2008/2009.
Living in Atlanta, Georgia, Philippa saw the need for an event that would show case the rich African culture and all that it has to offer to not only the African diaspora but also to other who have interest in learning about and experiencing this culture. With this vision in mind, the idea of an annual African Summer Festival was born. Atlanta is a city of many diverse culture's, this creates a platform for such an event. The African Summer Fest will bring together business, entrepreneurs , entertainers, community organizations and philanthropist together and is an event that is open for everyone to experience.
This event will showcase exquisite cuisine from fine African restaurants, alluring fashion designs from various designers, music from internationally known dj's and artists, a variety of cultural artifacts, clothing, and accessories with an amazing array of activities for children to enjoy. The African Summer Fest is surely an event for the entire family.
